Etisalat BlackBerry Software Upgrade Aims to Enhance Performance of Devices and Facilitate Handover from 3G to 2G Networks

Abu Dhabi 15 July 2009: Etisalat today confirmed that a conflict in the settings in some BlackBerry devices has led to a slight technical fault while upgrading the software of these devices. This has resulted in reduced battery life in a very limited number of devices. Etisalat has received approximately 300 complaints to date, out of its total customer base which exceeds 145,000.

These upgrades were required for service enhancements particularly for issues identified related to the handover between 2G to 3G network coverage areas.

Customers who have been affected are advised to call 101 where they will be given instructions on how to restore their handset to its original state. This will resolve the issue completely.

Newsflash, Etisalat corp. comms - when the newspapers have already broken a story about SS8, you need to engage with that particular element.

When you're talking about BlackBerry issues, you're dealing with a tech-savvy, affluent, international audience.

And unfortunately the 'these aren't the droids you're looking for' Jedi mind trick doesn't work on that demographic.

145,000 BlackBerry users? Amazing.

absolutely ridiculous. just give people a statement that says something about improving performance and technical issues and hope that they aren't smart enough to realize the bigger picture.

do you think that etisalat is so blind as a monopolistic behemoth that they don't know the entire international community has found out about its spyware attempt? but i guess we have no alternative so it doesn't really matter...

Etisalat's explanations on BlackBerry fault far from reality

I wonder. Blackberry devices in the whole world have no issues handing over from 3G to 2G and vice versa, except in the UAE? No BB in the world requires the patch JUST the Etisalat ones? What is with the poor tourists with Blackberry devices in the UAE? Don't they need the patch too, as they use the same network? For something that is done in the NETWORK and not on the device? Please Etisalat respond to the allegations and don't try to tell us a story so obviously wrong.

This mentality (pretend everything is fine when something really goes wrong) was very common in Communist countries. I am sure Etisalat doesnt have ex-Soviet Propaganda people among tis staff. Then again, some regimes closer to us also have this mentality (Iran, Baathist govts....)
